CHALLENGE

We were approached by Matto after they secured their second unit. After the success of their city centre takeaway they wanted to launch a new restaurant to a bustling neighbourhood where  people could sit and relax to sample their unique take on authentic Neapolitan pizza. The challenge was to re-model and re-furnish the two level unit in just 12 weeks..

APPROACH

The creative concept was born from the translation of 'Matto' meaning 'Crazy' in Italian. A beautiful traditional listed building we wanted to honour the architectural details while ensuring that Matto's brand values were felt by guests. The bold and boisterous nature of the Neapolitan culture was translated into a striped ceiling inspired by original Neapolitan tiles with an original ceiling rose popping in bright pink to offset the more traditional exposed brickwork. Timber accents in furniture choices inspired by the show stopping wood fired pizza oven dressed in black gloss mosaic tiles reminiscent of a huge disco ball to set the atmosphere.

RESULTS

Matto Restaurant was transformed from concept to handover in 11 weeks allowing them to open and trade for the much needed xmas period. Guests now dine in a modern pizzeria with an urban edge, bold personality yet embracing the traditional values of Neapolitan pizza making.
