CHALLENGE

The Thirty Six is a premium workplace set in a traditional Georgian terrace in the heart of Edinburgh's New Town.

After COVID19 and the resulting change to workplace behaviour, we were asked to transform the building from an office into a premium destination with a hospitality feel where people are proud to work.

APPROACH

Reflecting the iconic location and grandeur of the building was key when building the blueprint for The Thirty Six. We wanted to enhance its features and celebrate the beauty of its architecture. Developing a brand identity with the client we created a destination by using the number of the building itself. Applying this throughout the building at every touchpoint positions the brand as the welcoming host. We celebrated the elegance of the building by using traditional materials and craftmanship applied in innovative and beautiful ways to create the welcoming and intimate feel of a boutique hotel.

RESULTS

The Thirty Six was fully let for handover and is now much talked about amongst its neighbours. High quality is conveyed at every touchpoint with acute attention to detail and a tactile finish at all points from functional way finding to decorative installation artwork. The hospitality led approach to workspace design has been well received, generating great interest with our client in talks to apply this unique design led approach to more properties coming soon to Edinburgh.
